On my first trip to Prescott, Arizona, I remember seeing Scott’s 2007 Lexus GX470 at Overland HQ and asking him about it. At the time, I was considering the vehicle for an overland build myself (which I ultimately abandoned in favor of a full-sized truck, primarily because I needed more robust towing capability).
Scott and I discussing the merits of the GX: the proven J-series platform (Prado), heavy-duty body-on-frame construction, the 4.7-liter V8 power plant, the 1500-pound payload rating, long-travel 5-link airbag rear suspension, as well as the overall reliability of Lexus, and the cost savings (it’s amazing how much a Toyota badge adds to a vehicle’s price!).
