Video of the week: Choosing an Overland Vehicle

If you’re into overlanding, chances are that you’re familiar with Expedition Overland. Their action-packed YouTube videos have kept enthusiasts hooked since their initial release in 2011, and have inspired many people, myself included, to venture out into the beautiful world around them. But besides their epic trips through North, Central, and South America, which you should really check out here, their team has recently taken a step toward education with an awesome series called “Oh Hey There.”

These videos follow Jeff Downer, a well-known team member of the XOverland crew, as he dives into some of the core topics of overlanding, from advice on choosing a vehicle to tips on proper recovery methods and pooping in the woods. As I’m sure you can imagine, it’s both informative and entertaining to watch. On the episode linked below, Jeff takes a look at what factors should be considered when choosing your ideal overland vehicle, and reaffirms that one size doesn’t fit all.

Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Chris didn’t receive a real taste of the outdoors until moving to Prescott, Arizona, in 2009. While working on his business degree, he learned to fly and spent his weekends exploring the Arizona desert and high country. It was there that he fell in love with backcountry travel and four-wheel drive vehicles, eventually leading him to Overland Journal and Expedition Portal. After several years of honing his skills in writing, photography, and off-road driving, Chris now works for the company full time as Expedition Portal's Senior Editor while living full-time on the road.
