We may not have gotten many of the 4×4 Japanese vans in the ’80s and ’90s, but now that they’re arriving on American shores, we’re definitely making up for the lost time. Small enthusiast events are popping up around the country, photos of Delicas and Hiaces are flooding Instagram, and dedicated trail runs are becoming more and more common. While they aren’t tackling terrain like the Rubicon, taking this van off-road looks like a blast. Just check out this snow run hosted by Vanlife Northwest, for example. It inspired us to head out for a weekend adventure, and it may just do the same for you. So take a sip of that hot coffee and enjoy this frosty scene.

Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Chris didn’t receive a real taste of the outdoors until moving to Prescott, Arizona, in 2009. While working on his business degree, he learned to fly and spent his weekends exploring the Arizona desert and high country. It was there that he fell in love with backcountry travel and four-wheel drive vehicles, eventually leading him to Overland Journal and Expedition Portal. After several years of honing his skills in writing, photography, and off-road driving, Chris now works for the company full time as Expedition Portal's Senior Editor while living full-time on the road.
