“This motor is awesome! It’s my favorite motor that I’ve ever had in a Wrangler,” says Scott, and he stands in front of the Jeep with a big smile on his face. Of course, he’s referring to the 3-liter diesel motor in the new 2020/2021 Jeep Wrangler. This powerplant produces 442 pound-feet of torque and 260 horsepower, plenty of strength to tow a 2,000+ pound trailer (tested with a Bruder).
While its need for ultra-low sulfer diesel limits its international overlanding appeal, it certainly appears to be a viable option in North America. And when was the last time you drove a Wrangler that approaches 30 mpg on the highway?
“If you’re looking for maximum performance in very technical terrain, the diesel is the way to go. This new motor delivers on everything we wanted a Wrangler diesel to be.”
