It used to be that a camper van was either bought ready to roll or a bare-bones van was converted to provide a semblance of convenience and comfort by someone who dreamed of traveling and who, coincidentally, owned a toolbox. Those days seem long gone as we collectively leapfrog from one inspiring, beautiful, and complicated online DIY build to another. If you are a KISS (Keep It Simple Silly) kind of person, this build is probably not for you, but if you are proficient in CAD, own a 3D printer, and can fly a drone blindfolded, this camper van conversion/build is for you. Ladi and Margaret are an interesting couple; they met in New Zealand while Margaret was backpacking and Ladi was living in a converted van; they fell in love and now dedicate themselves to building things from camper vans to tiny houses to workshops and even a range of impressive e-bikes. Ladi’s technical skills are enviable, and his attention to detail is annoying in the best possible way. In this video, the couple overthink and over perform and do an excellent job building a vehicle that has every mod con, including a built-in 3D printer, a garage for e-bikes, and a workshop beneath a lifting bed. Are we jealous of their skill and technical proficiency? Yes, we are. Is their van our cup of tea? Not really, but you might love it.
Sidenote: The entire campervan build including the 2015 Fiat L4H3 van cost only $25,000 but this does not include the cost of the tools or machinery.
Have a look on their website for more information on their ebikes and the entire van build parts list (at a fee of course).
