In this week’s video, the ever-popular and highly watchable Ronny Dahl takes his new 2.8-liter Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series out into the dunes, beach, and bush to see how well the vehicle performs while comparing the diesel automatic Cruiser to his two V8 manual Cruisers. Ronny does his best to expose both the strengths and weaknesses of the stock Land Cruiser and offers an enthusiastic and balanced assessment of the vehicle’s performance.
The 2024 Land Cruiser 70 Series model is powered by a 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV direct injection turbocharged diesel engine, which is also found in other Toyota models like the Fortuner. This engine delivers a robust 201 brake horsepower and a peak torque of 500 Nm. The power is transmitted to all four wheels through a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission. This configuration ensures that the vehicle maintains its off-road capabilities while offering a more refined driving experience. Spoiler alert: it seems Ronny is quite smitten with the new Land Cruiser, which he bought with his own money, and we eagerly await the modifications and upgrades he has planned to turn this rather agricultural vehicle into a “dinkum” overlander.
Unfortunately, the 2.8-liter Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series will not be available in the US, but we can live vicariously through the exploits of our friends down under.
