Overland Journal Senior Photographer Bruce Dorn Named Canon Legend

Bruce Dorn

It’s safe to say that Overland Journal’s Senior Photographer Bruce Dorn has seen it all through his viewfinder over the last 40 years as a professional lensman in couture fashion, advertising, editorial, and adventure photography. As an award-winning director and filmmaker, Bruce is also the Creative Director for the pioneering visual and digital effects powerhouse Robert Able & Associates. His photography is always somehow immediately attention-grabbing, yet subtle in its execution at the same time.

For the last 18 years, Canon USA has recognized Bruce as an Explorer of Light, but in 2023 the venerable camera company honored him as a Canon Legend. The Legends are a select group of photographers that include huge names in the field, like Walter Iooss, Jr., Lauren Greenfield, and David Hume Kennerly. This is rarified company, and Bruce’s body of work certainly belongs among theirs. We’ve been proud to partner with Bruce at Overland Journal for many years now, and we can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.

Bruce has traveled the world extensively as a creative and has enjoyed a lifetime of interesting vehicles, motorcycles, and exploits. He’s a natural-born raconteur and a highly skilled educator, so we recommend listening to our interview with Bruce on the Overland Journal Podcast, where we cover broad topics from overlanding to photography and everything in between. You can find more of Bruce Dorn’s stunning photography on his Instagram page, his website, and on Canon’s YouTube channel.

Stephan Edwards is the Associate Editor of Expedition Portal and Overland Journal. He and his wife, Julie, once bought an old Land Rover sight unseen from strangers on the internet in a country they'd never been to and drove it through half of Africa. After living in Botswana for two years, Stephan now makes camp at the foot of a round mountain in Missoula, Montana. He still drives that Land Rover every day. An anthropologist in his former life and a lover of all things automotive, Stephan is a staunch advocate for public lands and his writing and photography have appeared in Road & Track, The Drive, and Adventure Journal.
