German expedition vehicle manufacturer Unicat builds large, no-nonsense expedition vehicles that are fit for global travel. Generally, they begin with a Mercedes, MAN, or Volvo chassis, to which they attach a habitat with everything the intrepid traveler could need for life on the road.
But Pat and Chris’ Unicat is different. It’s one of only two TerraCross model vehicles that were built on the International MXT-MV chassis. This 4×4 truck has an Allison transmission, front and rear lockers, and is powered by a Navistar VT365 6.0-liter engine which generates 300 horsepower. Fuel capacity is 182 gallons, and the truck is outfitted with an air compressor, a cab air suspension, self-leveling air suspension for the rear axle, and Recaro leather power seating.
A highly detailed vehicle spec sheet can be found here.
From Pat and Chris
“We purchased the Unicat in 2016 and were mostly limited to weekend camping trips due to our work demands. We both retired from our jobs in 2018 with plans to become full-time overlanders. After selling our home, we loaded up the Unicat with our gear, putting everything else we owned into a 10- by 10-foot storage unit.”
“The first leg of our full-time travels took us through Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and finally, Maine, where we thoroughly enjoyed our visit, particularly the maritime communities during that summer. We had a blast, then headed south along the eastern seaboard and onward.”
