Overland Classifieds :: 2017 Mitsubishi Fuso FG 4×4 Overland Build

Here’s an ingenious overlanding setup combining a 2017 Mitsubishi Fuso FG 4×4 truck with a 2016 Four Wheel Campers Granby flatbed camper on a Proline custom flatbed. We’ve seen similar setups in the classifieds before, and when you consider the Fuso’s 8,055-pound payload combined with its 4P10-T5 diesel engine, it’s easy to understand why this platform is frequently chosen for long-distance travel.

In this case, the vehicle’s owner, Randy Perkins, built the rig for an around-the-world trip which he intended to begin in 2018. Unfortunately, a variety of complications prevented him from realizing his dream. His rig was previously featured on Expedition Portal in this article by Chris Cordes.

Randy’s Fuso at a Glance

Randy invested a huge amount of time and money into this unique vehicle build, and his designs were all executed thoughtfully for long-term travel. This began with the selection of the relatively lightweight Grandy Camper, leaving the Fuso with a large amount of additional payload capacity. Numerous exterior lockable storage boxes were then integrated to house additional equipment. Two of those compartments provide dedicated storage for a 12-volt ARB refrigerator and a 3.8 kilowatt Cummins Onan diesel generator.

All Terrain Warriors Australia progressive spring leaf packs with big bore gas shocks were spec’d for the vehicle’s 13,250-pound full-up weight, and everything rides on a set of All Terrain Warriors Australia 19.5-inch aluminum reversible wheels with Toyo 608S traction tread tires (285/70R19.5).

For those of you that want to put in long driving days, that’s no problem thanks to the vehicle’s 265-gallon combined fuel capacity, which delivers an impressive 3,500-mile driving range (theoretically allowing you to drive from LA to Costa Rica on a single fill as previously pointed out by Chris).
