Overland Classifieds :: 2005 Stewart and Stevenson M1083A 6×6 with Custom Gichner S-280 Shelter

M1083A medium tactical vehicle

Military vehicles make some of the most bomb-proof global travel platforms available, with large payloads that can accommodate just about any type of habitat you could want. The M1083A, a.k.a. medium tactical vehicle (also FMTV), is a prime example, with a 6×6 drivetrain that is powered by a Caterpillar diesel engine. The M1083A was developed in the ’80s using the Austrian Steyr 12M18 as a blueprint. It would eventually replace the aging US military truck fleet, providing a more capable, yet efficient design to support campaigns in a wide variety of locations.

The initial manufacturing contract for the M1083A was awarded to Stewart and Stevenson who developed close to twenty different variations of the truck, each with a specific purpose on the battlefield.

This particular M1083A comes to you from the Expedition Portal forum classifieds, where it was recently listed for sale. This rig will stand out on the road or blend into the forest, thanks to its original camo paint scheme. And its Gichner S-280 shelter, which has had a full custom renovation, is sure to keep its new occupants comfortable on their next big overland route.

From the Seller:

“You’ll likely not find another 2005 Stewart and Stevenson M1083A 6×6 with a Gichner S-280 Shelter mounted in the bed for sale any time soon. Just about every component in this purpose-built overland camper has been upgraded or replaced to ensure its reliability.
