Overland Classifieds :: 1997 Toyota Tacoma 4×4 with Four Wheel Camper

The popularity of the Tacoma amongst overlanders is truly astonishing and a testament to the build quality, reliability, and capability of these trucks. This model may not be the most luxurious, but it’s a dependable daily workhorse, excellent when the tarmac ends, and parts are available worldwide. Over the past few months, we’ve featured some amazing overland-ready rigs, including this 2016 TRD Off-Road with FWC and a 2015 SR5. Today’s well-maintained Tacoma 4×4 has covered 189,000 miles, showcases a custom Four Wheel Camper and a long list of premium modifications.

From the Seller:

The Four Wheel Camper started as an 80s Grandby and was into the dimensions of an Eagle by the previous owner. I purchased it as a shell, then built out the interior and finished the outside. This truck has taken me to some cool places around the country and has been very reliable. The camper has a full-size bed in the “loft” and a lower bed that can be slept on when the top is down. There’s approximately 6-foot of headroom when the roof is popped.”

1997 Toyota Tacoma 4×4

The Tacoma was introduced to the US market in 1995 as a replacement for the Hilux. The goal was to carry forward the ruggedness and go-anywhere appeal of the Hilux while introducing better handling, safety, ride quality, and comfort. Toyota fitted the Tacoma with a 3.4-liter V6 motor that produces 190 horsepower, 220 pound-feet of torque, and returns a combined 16 mpg. A strong engine and drivetrain are matched with excellent all-terrain capability, especially if you opt for the TRD Off-Road package, which features a locking differential, skid plates, uprated Bilstein shocks, and BFGoodrich tires. Today’s model does not offer this package, but is 4WD.
