Overland Classifieds :: 1996 Land Rover Defender 130 Expedition Camper

We’ve recently posted several overland-ready Land Rover builds, including this $113,000 CAD TD4 with a Globe Camper and a $70,000 130 Expedition Rig. The Defender is one of the most proven vehicle platforms for overlanding and can be outfitted in many ways (this makes the versatile long wheelbase 130 particularly desirable). However, while a canopy or pop-top tent are valid options, a lightweight camper/habitation box is often considered the best for a long-term four-season adventure. At €55,000, today’s 1996 Defender 130 is a bargain and showcases the sought-after 300Tdi motor, and is eligible for US import. If you’d like to know what it’s like to travel the world in a Defender 130, I recommend reading Christophe Noel’s interview with Graeme Bell of A2A Expedition.

From the Seller:

My good friend in Cape Town is selling his awesome turn-key Defender 130 expedition camper. He built this to travel and live in remote areas in Africa safely and reliably. He owns a drilling company, so it involved him living in the bush for weeks or months at a time. The truck has a 300Tdi, custom habitation box, and pulls really well. The truck has recently had a complete mechanical overhaul, and if desired, the camper can be separated from the load bin.”

1996 Land Rover Defender 130

This Defender 130 is fitted with the venerable 300Tdi motor that produces 111 horsepower and up to 285 pound-feet of torque. On-road performance is expectedly underwhelming, but off-road, the Defender’s performance is legendary thanks to the permanent 4WD, 2-speed transfer case, manually locking center differential, and more.
