Moots Turns 40! 1981-2021

In 2021, Moots turns 40, and that’s pretty dang impressive for any company, let alone a small bespoke bicycle manufacturer. This longevity is the product of exquisite workmanship and a subsequent loyal following.

Brent Whittington, the owner of Moots Cycles, states, “As you can tell, we are all excited here at Moots, and 2021 is going to be a fun and exciting year. I am only our third owner in 40 years, and I feel so honoured to be part of this team, yet also a tremendous amount of pressure to continue the legacy. The pressure drives us to get better every day and keep quality the top priority in all we do at Moots. I am so thankful for all the support of our riders, dealers, and employees over these years!”

One need only look at the company’s latest lineup to figure out why they’ve had such long-term success. The attention to detail that clearly goes into these bicycles is enough to get any cycling nerd a little hot and bothered. At first glance, I found myself eyeballing their ‘specialty’ bike, the Baxter 29, ‘a drop bar mountain bike with a lovable attitude for big tires and big adventure’. There’s something about a bicycle with drop bars, big tires, and front suspension that just speaks to me—it whispers in my ear, seductively, that we could have a lot of fun together. Ugh. Focus Jack. It’s a beautiful bike and sets the tone for a range of products that reflects the company’s pursuit of perfection.

So how is this Colorado-based company celebrating? Well, first off, every bike in 2021 receives a limited-edition, 40th-anniversary head badge (seen below). Moots will also be expanding its range of apparel and soft goods. Lastly, and perhaps most interestingly, they’ll be sharing stories from their 40-year history across all platforms.

I have a deep-rooted respect for companies who stand by their values and build success through genuine hard work, exceptional quality, and most importantly, a real passion for their craft. Happy Birthday Moots; here’s to another four decades!
