MDC USA introduces the XT12HR Off-Grid Extreme Edition

MDC USA has introduced the XT12HR Off-Grid Extreme Edition, a compact travel trailer designed for off-road enthusiasts seeking comfort and durability in remote locations. This trailer is in the mid-range in terms of pricing (mid-range is the old top range) and offers a host of features that should satisfy most trailer enthusiasts. According to MDC USA, this trailer is built to withstand challenging terrains and is 18 feet 2 inches long and 7 feet 6 inches in width, with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 6,147 pounds.

The XT12HR’s foundation is a galvanized steel chassis complemented by an X-TRACK independent coil spring suspension system. This configuration enhances stability and control on uneven surfaces. The trailer has 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels fitted with off-road tires, and a Cruisemaster DO35 hitch facilitates improved off-road handling.

The XT12HR features a slide-out stainless steel kitchen with a three-burner propane cooktop and a sink with hot and cold water for outdoor cooking. An external refrigerator slide and ample storage compartments ensure essentials are protected during travel, thanks to triple-seal hatches that prevent dust and water ingress. A 9.8-foot-wide 12-volt electric cassette awning provides shade and shelter, enhancing the outdoor experience.

Inside, the trailer accommodates two people with a custom pillow-top Olympic queen-size innerspring mattress. The interior includes a wet bath equipped with a Thetford C400 cassette toilet and a hot and cold plumbed shower. The living area is designed for relative comfort, featuring modern amenities such as a 19-inch LED TV and a stereo system with internal and external speakers.

The XT12HR has a Renogy-powered electrical system, including a 400 amp-hour lithium battery capacity, 350 watts of roof-mounted solar panels, and a 3,000-watt pure sine-wave inverter. This setup ensures reliable energy for extended off-grid trips. The system’s auto-transfer capability between DC battery and AC shore power allows seamless energy management, while cloud-based connectivity enables real-time monitoring.

The trailer includes a Truma Aventa Eco 13,500 BTU/h air conditioning system and a ducted Truma VarioHeat 11,500 BTU/h propane furnace to ensure year-round comfort. The Cold Weather Pack features water tank heating pads, a Truma AquaGo Comfort Plus hot water anti-freeze kit, insulated water lines, and self-heating lithium batteries, maintaining functionality in various climates.

Safety features include the Tuson TSC-1000 electronic stability control system and a digital wireless rearview camera, enhancing control and visibility during travel. The XT12HR also offers a rear-mounted service ladder for added accessibility and stylish new decals, all within a rigid roof design.
