Scott Brady reviews the new Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Trailhawk, which has proven to be the most comfortable and capable Grand Cherokee ever released. From the center and rear locking differentials to the 31-inch tires, multi-height airbag suspension, and driver-selectable front sway bar disconnect to the 30-mile electric-only range and road-trip comfort—this may be the best Grand Cherokee for overlanding.
The electric mode is a compelling feature, where daily commuting and errands can be completed with an EV-only range at a much lower per-mile cost. But the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Trailhawk still has a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and over 20 gallons of fuel on board. The EV and fuel combined yield a 500+ mile range for long trips. On the trail, the driver-selectable sway bar disconnect helps increase cross-axle articulation and significantly reduces head toss. The quality 31-inch all-terrain tires on 18-inch wheels provide good ground clearance and traction, while the airbag suspension allows for two levels of off-road mode lift to help clear more significant obstacles.
