Farfalla Camper Flip: Modular Towable Designed for Compact Touring

At first glance, the Farfalla Camper Flip may not project a rugged expedition aesthetic, yet it represents a thoughtful interpretation of the lightweight touring trailer. Its compact exterior proportions conceal a flexible living concept intended to maximize usable space once camp is established. Designed with seating and sleeping for up to three occupants, the Flip offers a practical blend of interior comfort and outdoor living potential suited to couples or small families exploring Europe during the warmer months. With appropriate upgrades, such as a more robust suspension, larger tires, and improved clearance, the concept could conceivably be extended to more adventurous routes beyond paved roads. Hopefully, a more robust version is being planned for us overlanders who prefer to travel more rugged roads than those north of the Alps.

Developed by German manufacturer Farfalla Camper, the Flip platform evolved from earlier box-trailer conversions into a modular micro-caravan aimed at travelers seeking maneuverability and storage simplicity without sacrificing overnight comfort. The underlying structure consists of a reinforced cargo-trailer chassis paired with a GRP sandwich body shell, forming a durable yet lightweight habitation cell. This construction enables the trailer to function as an enclosed cargo unit while in transit, transforming into a compact living environment at camp. Farfalla’s modular philosophy allows owners to configure equipment levels to suit individual travel styles, with options ranging from external awnings and kitchen modules to rooftop sleeping solutions and additional storage systems.

Sleeping arrangements form a central part of the Flip’s appeal. Inside, a bench-and-table dinette converts into a full-length double bed, creating a sheltered primary sleeping area. An additional berth can be achieved through an optional drop-down roof-tent module, effectively expanding accommodation capacity without increasing the trailer’s road footprint. This layered sleeping strategy supports flexible use, allowing families or traveling partners to adapt the layout according to climate, terrain, or personal preference.

Hygiene facilities remain deliberately simple but functional. A compact rear-washing module incorporates a stainless-steel basin supplied by a portable freshwater container, enabling basic daily routines such as handwashing or dishwashing. Toilet solutions are typically portable and integrated into the modular storage system, reflecting the trailer’s emphasis on lightweight practicality rather than fully plumbed systems.

Weighing approximately 550 kilograms unladen and rated at up to 1,400 kilograms gross, the Flip can be towed by a wide range of everyday vehicles, including smaller SUVs and some electric models. Its modest dimensions—roughly 4.45 meters in length and just over 2 meters in height—help reduce aerodynamic drag and simplify handling on narrow European roads. Pricing varies by specification, with entry-level models historically positioned in the mid-teens in euro terms and more comprehensively equipped variants approaching €26,000 ($28,000).
