Expedition Portal Classifieds :: 2015 Ram MegaCab 3500 Cummins with AEV Kit

This 2015 Ram MegaCab 3500 Cummins is the kind of truck that many of us dream of building. With its mix of comfort, power, towing ability, and cargo capacity, it’s one heck of an adventure vehicle. Quinn, the seller of this awesome rig, originally listed this vehicle for sale in the Expedition Portal Forum classifieds section.

Quinn purchased this truck for weekend overlanding trips and to use as a hauler for his other gear. He wanted a truck that could go “almost anywhere it would fit,” with room for his family and all of the extra equipment needed to stay comfortable on the trail. He purchased the Ram 3500 from a dealer who had acquired it from an AEV dealer (who installed most of the AEV components). After purchasing it, Quinn added gears, a locker, winch, PSC steering, rack, tent, and Decked setup to complete this incredible build.

From Quinn

“I picked a 3500 MegaCab Cummins Ram for several reasons. First off, the Cummins engine; it’s my fourth Cummins Ram and I love them. The I-6 Cummins is a fantastic setup. Secondly the MegaCab; the room is perfect for a family and tons of gear. Finally what sold me on the Ram for an overland style build was all the AEV components available and aftermarket support. The AEV Prospector XL kit/components make these HD Rams an absolute pleasure to drive on and off road. The truck does exactly what I want it to and it drives better than a stock Ram. I’m not being paid by AEV nor am I sponsored in any way, I just like their products THAT much.”

Quinn reflects on one of his favorite trips in the Ram 3500

“Between my Dad and me, I think we’ve been to almost 60 countries. However, we never really had the chance to explore Utah together. I thought a great trip to do would be the White Rim Trail in Canyonlands National Park. We went in April 2019 and enjoyed spectacular weather for the first few days. The trail and scenery were absolutely breathtaking, but by night two on the trail, we got caught in a horrendous windstorm while camping at White Crack. The next day, temperatures slowly dropped into the low 30s and high 20s, and the rain eventually turned to snow. We managed to drive from White Crack clockwise, heading toward Labyrinth in a slow rain that turned into a blizzard. By the time we got to Hardscrabble, the weather had gotten really bad (I would call the trail almost impassable at that point). We continued on without another vehicle anywhere to be seen. When we got to the Mineral Bottom Road switchbacks, the road was a snowy, muddy mess, but we decided to go up anyway since it was our only way out. On the way up we ran into some park rangers who got stuck going down on their way to close the road. We all got out of there, but had I been in almost any other vehicle, we would have had to drive all the way back around the White Rim to exit. I can 100 percent attest to the fact that after torrential rain/snow, going through Hardscrabble and up Mineral Bottom Road is not advised and is effectively impassable. That is, of course, unless you’re in a locked Ram on 40-inch MTs. We skipped our last night camping at Labyrinth due to the horrible weather and enjoyed some cold beer and great food back in Moab.”
