Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road

The Tacoma is without doubt the most popular truck on our forum with recent builds including this 2021 TRD Off Road with a Four Wheel Camper Fleet, a 2005 SR5 Double Cab, and a 2018 TRD Pro. It’s also a favorite with the Expedition Portal team and was subsequently chosen as an Overland Journal project vehicle. As someone who has travelled long-term in a far less reliable vehicle, it can be frustrating when mechanical issues begin to detract from experiences. Similarly, friends and fellow overlanders Bound for Nowhere transitioned to the Tacoma after a series of troublesome rigs. During their conversation with Ashley Giordano on the Overland Journal podcast, they disclosed that selling the Tacoma was really tough. They expanded that they were immensely grateful to this humble truck because it allowed them to rediscover the beauty of travel without the constant fear of breakdowns. Their experience is certainly not unique which is why so many overlanders continue to choose this platform despite fierce competition from alternatives in the mid-size category. Today’s 2006 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road features premium modifications and has covered 145,000 miles.
