We’ve featured several exceptionally well-considered and professionally outfitted overland builds recently, and today’s 2020 Ram 2500 with 61,500 miles is no exception. This full-size platform is a popular choice for overlanding thanks to its legendary Cummins diesel motor, well-equipped interior, backcountry credentials, and generous payload and towing capacity. Expedition Portal and Overland Journal Publisher Scott Brady stated, “While the Power Wagon gets all the off-road attention, the 2500 and 3500s have quietly overtaken the #1 seat in the full-size overland segment. With the combination of solid axles, the Cummins motor, and with the aftermarket support of companies like AEV, the Ram has consistently ranked as the most popular big truck for our audience.” These vehicles can be optioned from the factory with a suite of options, with today’s example showcasing both the luxurious Laramie trim and the Off-Road package. This 2020 Crew Cab 4×4 has been tastefully enhanced, and it’s clear that care has been taken to improve backcountry travel without compromising everyday drivability. The Bowen Customs’ 6-foot bed is a thing of beauty that transforms the truck into a legitimate expedition vehicle. The bed retains factory height while providing a high departure angle, a wide array of exterior storage cabinets that utilize previously wasted space, and is designed specifically for slide-in campers, such as the Supertramp Flagship LT camper. The award-winning four-season camper was awarded Truck Camper’s Reader’s Magazine’s Best Pop-up Truck Camper of 2023 and incorporates class-leading build quality and innovation alongside generous amenities. From the Seller:
“As an avid enduro rider and photographer, I’ve relied on a Sprinter van for many years. However, one major hurdle persisted: my garage. The constant struggle of not being able to store the van indoors due to my 9-foot garage door became a significant frustration. Initially, I considered a pop-top van as the only solution. However, when I discovered the Supertramp camper, I was immediately captivated. Already a fan of my Ram 2500’s ride and performance, I knew it could serve as the perfect base for the Supertramp. However, two challenges remained. The stock ride height of the Supertramp camper installed on the Ram 2500 measured 110 inches, while my actual garage door opening was 109 inches (less than 9 feet). This necessitated the installation of Kelderman Air Suspension, allowing me, at the push of a button, to drop the truck’s suspension to fit within my 109-inch height limitation. The added benefit was being able to easily level the rig at campsites by independently adjusting each airbag. Storage remained the final concern. The Bowen truck bed offered the solution, providing ample capacity without sacrificing the truck’s agility. A year later, my creation surpassed expectations, outperforming the van on all fronts.”
