2000 Ford F-250 w/ 2022 Scout Kenai Camper :: Featured Classified

Ford F-250 Scout Kenai

I have a lot of respect for off-the-shelf overland rigs and campers and they certainly have their benefits. However, it’s the self-builds, one-of-ones, that really get me excited. These vehicles are as unique as their owners and are oftentimes the culmination of years of blood, sweat, tears, and an obscene amount of money. Cue today’s 2000 Ford F-250, showcasing a plethora of top-tier parts and accessories, a custom flatbed, and topped with a fully equipped Scout Kenai camper. The F-250 that underpins the build is a great choice for overlanding thanks to its 4WD capability, generous payload and towing capacity, and legendary “million-mile” Power Stroke diesel motor (barely run in at 263,000 miles). Unsurprisingly, it’s a desirable platform for overland travelers as demonstrated by the adventures of Basil Lynch (of Basil’s Garage) and Jon Burtt. Today’s offering is topped with a Scout Kenai camper, which is the company’s premier offering. Subsequently, it’s “the biggest and full-featured, but as a member of the Scout family, it remains true to its values: minimalist, lightweight, and off-grid capable.” Hence, despite weighing just 1,331 pounds it can sleep up to 6 people and is engineered to provide four-season comfort, modular functionality, and off-grid independence. It’s also worth noting that extensive work has gone into bulletproofing this vehicle as documented in the original listing. So, if you’re looking for the perfect confluence of classic charm, reliability, capability, longevity, and interior refinement then this rig could be for you. From the Seller:

“Function over fashion was a motivator with this setup. The kids named it the Unicorn Donkey during the build and I think that’s a fitting name. We wanted ease of setup and breakdown after having gone through multiple other platforms. The functionality is what makes this build special to us. It’s reliable, does well on fuel, is pretty easy to work on, and after having this flatbed, I can confidently say we’ll never do another truck camper build with a standard bed. The exterior storage, table, and kitchen have allowed us to keep the things we use outside, out of the camper. By far our most enjoyable rig. There are lots of spare parts included as many were replaced before failure and kept as backups.”

2000 F-250 Super Duty

The F-250 is fitted with a 7.3-liter Power Stroke that in stock form delivers 260 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque (today’s example has been uprated and tuned for better performance and reliability) and is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. An exceptionally long-lived motor is matched with a “400-500 mile range” between fill-ups thanks to a 38-gallon fuel tank. Once the tarmac ends the Ford showcases impressive capability thanks to 4WD, high and low range, an uprated and lifted suspension, all-terrain tires, Warn Premium manual-locking front hubs, sliders, and more. Inside, these backcountry attributes are balanced with a well-equipped interior with driver comforts that include:
