Autarky Offgrid 4×4 Expedition Vehicle V3 :: Featured Classified

Ford F-450

We’ve showcased a number of premium expedition builds recently, including this $325,000 Adventurer Manufacturing Overlander, $299,000 Kokopelli Overland Expo Build, and $375,000 2015 EarthRoamer XV-LTThese drool-worthy vehicles offer all the luxuries of home while venturing off-grid and are priced accordingly. Today’s offering has similarly been built by a professional outfitter (Autarky 4×4 Expedition Vehicles) but is significantly cheaper at $150,000 despite enjoying many of the same desirable attributes. That’s no small sum of money for a vehicle, but let’s not forget this is also a four-season, go-anywhere rolling home and mobile office and could facilitate full-time travel both in North America and internationally. With all this in mind, the value becomes increasingly apparent, especially when you consider that if you sell after a few years of adventures, you’ll be able to recoup a considerable amount of what you spent, which is something you can’t say about rent or hotels! Built on an F-450 Super Duty, this monster rig has covered 107,000 miles and incorporates all the amenities necessary for remote exploration. These include a 300-amp-hour lithium battery bank supported by over 600 watts of solar, heating, air-conditioning, a shower, toilet, and so much more. If you’d like a full tour of this stunning vehicle, check out the walkthrough video on the company’s YouTube

From the Seller:

V3 was completed in 2020 and sold to its previous owner. The previous owner, Andrew, took his family on multiple US expeditions and ultimately worked their way down to the Mexican Yucatan peninsula. They traveled and lived full-time for nearly a year living the dream before returning to the States. They have finished their travels for the moment and have brought the truck back to Autarky headquarters to prepare it for sale. The truck has been tastefully upgraded and maintained with exceptional care; it is clean, prepared, and ready to go on its next expedition. The truck was designed around extreme exploration and ultimate comfort. With a proven global track record, the diesel-powered Ford Super Duty platform was our first choice. We acquired a low mileage 4×4 F-450 Ambulance in Denver, Colorado, where we proceeded to drive the truck back to our shop/home in Reno and begin its conversion. The ambulance was stripped down to its aluminum core and completely re-engineered, CAD designed, and professionally rebuilt into the camper you see today.”

Autarky Offgrid 4×4 Expedition Vehicle

This expedition camper is underpinned by a Ford F-450 Super Duty and powered by a “bulletproofed” 6.0-liter Power Stroke diesel. In stock form, this powerful motor delivers 330 horsepower and a considerable 560 pound-feet of torque, with the seller stating: “fuel economy is around 12 mpg with loads of highway diesel power.” These credentials are mated with impressive capability thanks to 4WD, high and low range, manual locking front hubs, a 4.88 gear differential, Dana 60 front and Dana 130 rear axles, and more. Inside, the Ford showcases a well-equipped interior with driver comforts that include:

  • Air-conditioning
  • Cruise control
  • Aftermarket audio
  • Captain’s chairs
  • Cupholders
  • Power steering, windows, locks, and mirrors

No money in the bank, but gas in the tank. Our resident Bikepacking Editor Jack Mac is an exploration photographer and writer living full-time in his 1986 Vanagon Syncro but spends most days at the garage pondering why he didn’t buy a Land Cruiser Troopy. If he’s not watching the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, he can be found mountaineering for Berghaus, sea kayaking for Prijon, or bikepacking for Surly Bikes.
