ARI Motors Unveils 458 Pro Camper, Germany’s Smallest Electric Motorhome

Anyone who has traveled through Europe in a camper will know that vehicles larger than a van can quickly become impractical on narrow, cobbled streets and confined urban lanes. For those content with modest speeds, limited range, and a compact living area, the 458 Pro Camper presents a workable solution. Would it suit overland travel? Perhaps. It comes down to using the vehicle within its intended limits; after all, even a tuk-tuk can be considered for overland travel in the right context.

German electric vehicle manufacturer ARI Motors recently introduced the ARI 458 Pro Camper, a compact, all-electric motorhome that reflects a growing trend toward downsized, urban-friendly recreational vehicles. Marketed as the smallest motorhome currently available in Germany, the model is based on the company’s modular 458 Pro platform, a light commercial electric vehicle originally developed for urban logistics and delivery applications.

Measuring approximately 12.5 feet in length, the ARI 458 Pro Camper occupies a footprint closer to that of a small city car than a conventional motorhome.  Despite its compact exterior, the cab-over camper box is designed to maximize interior usability, offering roughly 30 square feet of living space and a standing height of around 1.85 meters.

The ARI 458 Pro Camper is powered by a modest electric drivetrain that produces approximately 20 horsepower and limits top speed to about 46 mph, so trips on the Autobahn should be avoided. As a result, the vehicle falls into the European L7e category, a classification typically reserved for light electric vehicles intended for local or urban use rather than long-distance travel.

Two lithium-iron-phosphate battery options are available. The base 15-kilowatt-hour battery provides an estimated driving range of 75–112 miles, while an upgraded 23.5-kilowatt-hour battery increases the range to approximately 143 miles. Charging is handled via a standard 220-volt connection, with no provision for fast charging, reinforcing the vehicle’s positioning as a short-range, low-speed camper suited to regional travel and camping at campsites with a reliable power supply.

Inside, the ARI 458 Pro Camper adopts a deliberately minimalist approach. Rather than delivering a fully equipped interior, the manufacturer provides a largely empty, pre-configured shell with integrated electrical wiring, water connections, and basic infrastructure such as household power sockets and fresh and wastewater systems. This “blank canvas” concept allows owners to tailor the interior layout to their specific needs, whether that involves a simple sleeping platform or a more comprehensive setup with cooking and storage facilities.

Standard equipment includes a digital instrument cluster, reversing camera, Bluetooth connectivity, central locking, and optional cab air-conditioning. Additional options extend to solar panels, an auxiliary battery system, and customization of the camper body with additional windows or access points.

The ARI 458 Pro Camper represents a shift toward micro-camping solutions that prioritize efficiency, simplicity, and adaptability over range and performance. It is positioned less as a traditional long-distance motorhome and more as a flexible, entry-level platform for short trips and creative, user-defined builds.

Pricing for the ARI 458 Pro Camper is positioned at the lower end of the motorhome market, with base models starting at approximately $27,000, depending on configuration, and rising with additional equipment and battery upgrades. This pricing strategy places it below many conventional camper vans and travel trailers, though buyers must account for the additional cost of furnishing the interior.
