A Family Overland Adventure in Greece :: Video of the Week

This week’s video by Slovenian freelance photographer and videographer Uros Podlogar is a sensational tribute to his young family, the spirit of adventure, and the beauty of Greece. From the Acropolis of Athens to beaches with turquoise waters, this family of four traveled in their trusty Toyota Hilux and Alu-Cab camper, taking in every sun-filled moment along the way. Outfitted with Black Rhino wheels, Lazer Lamps lights, and Cooper tires, Podlogar’s Hilux is just as drool-worthy as the surrounding Grecian scenery.

Much of this video takes place on the Peloponnesian Peninsula, where villages and castles lie amongst mountains, forests, rivers, and caves. Archeological sites and UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as Bassae and the ancient city of Corinth abound. Still, the stunning beaches can’t be missed, providing ample opportunities for digging in the sand, swimming, or stand-up paddleboarding. Podlogar and his family use the Warn recovery winch while the kids act as official off-road experts, complete with blue and red plastic walkie-talkies.

With plenty of captivating drone footage, this video of the week follows Podlogar and his family along paved, twisting roads and pale, dusty tracks. Surrounded by olive trees and huge, toppling stones of civilizations past, we’re introduced to much of what Greece’s natural landscape has to offer.

As we transition into winter in the Northern Hemisphere, it won’t be visions of sugar plums dancing in my head, but the Mediterranean breeze, sugary sands, and tales of ancient Greece with a sun-drenched backdrop keeping me warm despite sub-zero temps.

Ashley Giordano completed a 48,800-kilometer overland journey from Canada to Argentina with her husband, Richard, in their well-loved but antiquated Toyota pickup. On the zig-zag route south, she hiked craggy peaks in the Andes, discovered diverse cultures in 15 different countries, and filled her tummy with spicy ceviche, Baja fish tacos, and Argentinian Malbec. As Senior Editor at Overland Journal, you can usually find Ashley buried in a pile of travel books, poring over maps, or writing about the unsung women of overlanding history. @desktoglory_ash
