Overland Classifieds :: 1992 Mitsubishi Delica L300 StarWagon 4×4

For those of you looking to get your hands on an imported vehicle from the nineties, this 1992 Mitsubishi Delica L300 StarWagon 4×4 might be your chance. This right-hand-drive van was imported from Japan into Canada in 2017, and the current owner, Corey, put in the hours and legwork to legally register the vehicle in California.

There’s no doubt that this van has character. A Sound Stage karaoke machine once lived in the interior, the illuminated logo on the rear hatch provides a charming touch, and your muscle memory will be challenged by the right-hand-drive for a time (watch out for those windshield wipers!).

In addition to character, however, the van also boasts practical elements. The 2.5-liter 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine is a rarity in North America, while the modular sleeping platform is ideal for overnight trips or organizing camping, rock climbing, skiing, and hiking paraphernalia. The platform breaks down into removable sections, creating room for a mountain bike or a pile of firewood.

From Corey:

“For sale is my beloved Bailey. She has served us well for the past two years, but the addition of a third child has deemed this little Star Wagon just a little too small for our universe.

The Delica is extremely capable for what it is, even though it is a slow-rolling pill bug on wheels. I flew my wife, two kids under three years old, with a pair of car seats and a couple of backpacks of supplies to Seattle and bought the van sight unseen. To say my wife was nervous jumping into a 28-year-old, right-hand-drive van with our two small children was an understatement.

We road-tripped home from Seattle through Hood River, Bend, Crater Lake, Tahoe, and Mammoth before enjoying our favorite stretch of the 395 back to SoCal. My daughters stuffed their faces at a fill-your-own bucket blueberry patch overlooking Mt. Hood, and we soaked our toes in the hot springs along the Eastern Sierra; all the while, the van didn’t miss a beat.

Everything was new again in the van: watching the rainfall through the Crystal Lite roof during a thunderstorm in Central Oregon, making a U-turn from the wrong side of the road, or going through a drive-through and receiving wild states from the cashier. This van exudes smiles everywhere it goes. Its slow nature forces you to enjoy the pace and focus on the journey.”
