Chris Janeway knows a thing or two about off-road vehicles. Between his work with Juniper Overland and Rocky Mountain Four Wheel Campers, he’s got plenty of experience upfitting vehicles for a variety of users, from weekenders to longer-term overland adventurers. That’s one of the reasons I was so excited to see this 2013 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-road come across the classified section of the Expedition Portal Forum.
Chris purchased this Taco used, but in pristine condition, and his team built it out as a show vehicle to demonstrate their services at Juniper Overland. It got upgraded with an AT Overland Summit canopy camper system and a wide selection of other aftermarket parts.

“I purchased this truck in the summer of 2016 from a recently widowed elderly woman who no longer needed the pickup. It was completely stock and a great candidate for another company vehicle we could build-out as an example of some of the products and services offered through our shop, Juniper Overland.”
“The goal was to create a very well-appointed and capable vehicle that still looked pretty chill using the ‘everything you need and nothing you don’t’ sort of mindset. The vehicle has been taken to tradeshows and events such as Overland Expo, the Overland Rallies, and been on display in our showroom in Arvada, Colorado. All upgrades were completed approximately. Two and a half years ago and are in showroom-like condition. It was not used as a personal camping truck, wheeled off-road, or driven heavily during the winter months.”

Upgrades & Equipment
Chris put a significant amount of aftermarket parts and labor into this vehicle to prepare it for the trail as well as longer overland adventures. Some of the vehicle highlights include:
- TRD Off-Road trim package
- Old Man Emu BP51 adjustable coil-over suspension
- SPC adjustable upper control arms
- Old Man Emu rear springs with extra leaf
- ARB front bumper
- 2 ARB Intensity lights mounted to the front bumper
- Come-Up 10,000-pound winch with synthetic line and wireless controller
- Dual battery system, Group 31 aux battery with Odyssey brand batteries
- RedArc Dc-Dc charger and solar controller, wired with SAE solar connector
- ARB twin air compressor
- 5 EVO Corse anthracite wheels to match the factory paint
- 5 BFG KO2s (285/70/17), approximately 8,000 miles
- CBI rear bumper with full-length swing-out holding a full-size spare, AT can holder, AT propane tank holder, 10-pound propane tank, Hi-Lift jack, and flip-down table when bumper is open for cooking at camp. Can be reconfigured to a new owner’s needs. All current mounts, brackets, tanks, and a Hi-Lift jack are included.
This Tacoma is also outfitted with an AT Overland Summit canopy camper system that is approximately 1.5 years old (and has only been used for trade shows). This camper has upgrades, including a window in the rear liftgate, a passenger-side flip-up hatch, opening windows between the truck cab and Summit camper, USB charging outlets, LED lighting, aircraft track on the roof, and load bars. Inside the AT Summit are complete interior Goose Gear cabinets with a Tembo Tusk locking refrigerator slide and a National Luna Weekender 50-liter fridge/freezer. A Propex heater (controlled with a thermostat) has been installed neatly in the Goose Gear cabinets to keep the camper warm on chilly nights. There is also a carbon monoxide detector installed for safety.
