Built as a memorial to mountaineer Luca Vuerich who was killed in an avalanche in 2010, the Luca Vuerich Cabin is located on an exposed rocky ridge at 2,531 meters above sea level in Italy’s Julian Alps. Its creator, Italian architect Giovanni Pesamosca, designed the tiny pre-fab A-frame to sleep nine people.
Due to the location of the cabin, some building materials needed to be flown in by helicopter. The entire project was assembled in a single day by a team of volunteers, professionals, and friends of the late mountaineer whom the cabin memorializes. This refuge is located on the Ceria-Merlone trail, where climbers and hikers are welcome to use it as a temporary retreat from the mountain weather or as a cozy accommodation for the evening.
