Hummer Is Back With 1,000 Horsepower, 11,500 lb-ft of Torque, and an Electric Drivetrain

At one point in time, the name Hummer was synonymous with off-road capability, but in the 2000’s it came to represent something totally different for millions of Americans, vehicular excess and waste. Instead of being perceived as a pinnacle producer of four-wheel drives, they were associated with massive chrome wheels, rubber-band tires, and large fuel bills. Today, I’m happy to report that GM has an opportunity to change all that with the release of the HUMMER EV.

So far the details on the vehicle are slim, but in anticipation of an upcoming Super Bowl ad, they’ve released a few juicy bits of information. The truck or SUV will have initial availability in Fall 2021. It will also be fully electric, boast 1,000 horsepower, 11,500 lb-ft of torque, and a staggering 3-second 0-60 time. It will also be produced under the GMC name, which makes sense given that GM would not be looking to revive an entire brand for a single-vehicle. At least, not yet.

We will definitely need to wait for more details to say if it will truly earn the name of HUMMER, but you can be it will be designed to go head-to-head with the upcoming Rivian and Tesla trucks. If there’s one thing we can say for sure, it’s that the electric truck race is heating up, and whatever GMC delivers will need to be well worth the wait.
