La Aduana: 1982 Hilux Double Cab

alt

It’s been a long time source of frustration for U.S. residents that vehicles like the like 70 series Land Cruiser, Defender 130, and Nissan Patrol, never made it to our shores, but it isn’t just full line-ups that we have missed out on. The United States was unfortunate enough to be deprived of the best variants of some models that we did receive. A great example of this is the Toyota Hilux Double Cab. Built to hold an additional 2-3 people, it combined the immense durability of the 1980s pickup with the practicality and usability of a double cab platform to create a perfect combination for overland use and daily driving.

The beautiful 1982 we have found today was originally sold in Australia and features all the options you would want in an 80s pickup. You’ll find leather seats, air conditioning, an upgraded stereo, and the best option of all, Toyota’s 4-cylinder 2L diesel engine. The body looks to be in great shape from the pictures, especially for a 31-year-old truck, and the advertisement states there are only minor dings and very little rust. It even comes with a color matched locking truck cap to keep all of your gear safe and secure. If you’re looking for a great family adventure vehicle that’s different from anything else in the States, check out this awesome Hilux before it’s gone.

Here’s a look at what the seller has to say:

For the person who wants something that virtually NO ONE else has, check out this right-hand-drive Toyota Hilux 4X4 Double Cab. This vehicle was never imported into the United States as a 4-door until 2001 as a Toyota Tacoma.

Recently imported from the Australian Outback (where it was only sold for 6 months as a mid-1982 model), this adventurous, unique vehicle is perfect for hauling your kids, your pets, and your gear.

This beauty has a 2L Diesel engine that runs great. Parts for this engine are readily available at local Toyota dealerships.

Clean body with very little minor rust and small misc dents. Includes locking color-matched camper-shell to protect all your gear.

Interior is clean and in very good condition. Dash has a few small cracks.

4-Speed Manual Transmission.

VIN is LN4600108 (Australian).

Odometer reads in km, so we converted the number to “miles” for this ad.

Brand new stereo and speakers.

Used as my daily driver to tote the kids around town.

A/C works but needs a re-charge.

Vehicle is located in Southern California with clean CA title and current registration. Because this vehicle is a diesel and older than 1997, it does not require smog checks in the state of California.
