Hardest Overland Trail in North America

Alexander MacKenzie Heritage Trail

The title of this video, “Hardest Overland Trail in North America (We Almost Died),” at first appears to be run-of-the-mill YouTube clickbait, which it is. However, after the first slow fifteen minutes, the action clips up a notch, and the viewer is drawn in by the landscapes’ beauty, the traveler’s affable character, and the trail’s increasing complexity. The deeper parts of the 112-mile Alexander Mackenzie Heritage Trail are worthy of respect and feature river crossings, tall grass, endless deadwood across the trail (chainsaws were essential on this journey), mud, and multitudes of mosquitoes. As the sun sets, the trio encounters an off-camber section of trail, a burial cross, and a rolled old wreck. Within the menace of darkness, it seems like the white Jeep might roll down the embankment into the lake below, and, well, you will have to watch the video to find out what happens next. Whether or not the Alexander Mackenzie Heritage Trail is, in fact, the most challenging trail in North America is up for debate, but we enjoyed The Story Till Now’s feature film-length video, and you probably will too.
