Overland Classifieds :: 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Limited

In a sea of $100,000+ overland builds currently for sale on the Expedition Portal classifieds forum, this 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Limited provides a breath of fresh air. Despite this version’s seemingly simple exterior, this Montero is chock-full of accessories and upgrades. Highlights include 2.5-inch King shocks, an ARB Deluxe bull bar, a roof-mounted Goal Zero 100-watt solar panel, and Escape Gear seat covers from South Africa.

From the Seller:

For those who do not know the Mitsubishi Montero, they are well regarded in Australia, Africa, and South America. Do not let the negative talk about them on YouTube fool you. A properly maintained Montero can go about anywhere, and best of all, they are cheaper than a built-up cruiser. Selling to fund my next project, a 200-Series.”

In 2003, Mitsubishi upgraded the Montero’s 3.5-liter engine to a 3.8 V-6 with 215 horsepower. This model also benefited from a new electronic stability control system. Decreasing sales figures revealed that American consumers were less than enthusiastic about the platform—as a result, US Montero sales ended in 2006.

However, the vehicle lives on globally under another well-known name: Pajero. The Pajero is known for its reliability, but its rally credentials are also impressive. Since its first Dakar Rally victory in 1983, Pajero/Montero has earned the title “King of the Desert” with 12 victories and seven consecutive wins.

  • ARB rear locker
