Video of the Week :: Levi Allen “Winter Storm in DIY Sprinter Conversion”

Levi Allen, the founder of Leftcoast Media, accomplished film director, explorer, and all-around good guy, creates some of the most beautiful adventure films on YouTube. In this episode, Levi shares five days of camping in his Mercedes-Benz Sprinter on Mount Washington, Vancouver, during a huge snowstorm that sees temperatures plummet to -19°Fahrenheit. This instalment includes a tour of his custom interior, features a winter sports extravaganza, and culminates with some thoughts on how the build could be improved for winter vanlife.

Levi grew up in the coastal mountains of British Columbia, where he discovered his love of videography and storytelling. Leftcoast Media has since worked with the Discovery Channel, National Geographic Adventures, Pinkbike, Paper Bag Records, and many more. His award-winning debut film Untethered has been broadcast internationally and is soon to be joined by his web series The Slacklife Series. Furthermore, he runs the Adventure Film Academy, which runs workshops to help other creatives improve their filmmaking.

I’ve subscribed to Levi’s channel for many years and have always been impressed by the diversity of his work, ability to tell stories, and proactive attitude toward life. Until recently, he lived full-time in his van with his wife, Janelle, and daughter, Ember. These vanlife episodes offer a fascinating insight into living on the road full-time with a young child and the design features that make an overlanding vehicle more child-friendly. If you’d like to learn about his upcoming projects, check out his website below or subscribe to Levi Allen on YouTube.

No money in the bank, but gas in the tank. Our resident Bikepacking Editor Jack Mac is an exploration photographer and writer living full-time in his 1986 Vanagon Syncro but spends most days at the garage pondering why he didn’t buy a Land Cruiser Troopy. If he’s not watching the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, he can be found mountaineering for Berghaus, sea kayaking for Prijon, or bikepacking for Surly Bikes. Jack most recently spent two years on various assignments in the Arctic Circle but is now back in the UK preparing for his upcoming expeditions—looking at Land Cruisers.
