The current-generation Land Cruiser was introduced only recently, and as a result, the 2027 model carries over the same core architecture, hybrid powertrain, and overall design. There are no major mechanical changes reported, with updates largely limited to minor refinements in trim offerings, equipment packaging, and availability. In practical terms, both model years deliver the same performance characteristics and capability, reinforcing Toyota’s strategy of establishing a stable platform early in the lifecycle.
For 2027, newly available features include a high-mounted air intake and heated and ventilated outboard seats in the second row. The exterior color palette has also been updated with the addition of a new shade (Inked)—essentially black with subtle hints of blue and green.

At its core, the 2027 model is powered exclusively by Toyota’s i-Force Max hybrid system, pairing a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with electric motors. The combined output stands at 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque, delivered through an 8-speed automatic transmission and a full-time four-wheel-drive system. This drivetrain is engineered to provide strong low-end torque for off-road conditions while improving efficiency compared to the V8-powered Land Cruisers of previous generations.

The Land Cruiser is available in two grades: the retro-inspired Land Cruiser 1958 and the more feature-rich Land Cruiser.


The 1958 model combines classic design elements with modern technology, including a touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, and comprehensive off-road hardware such as full-time 4WD, locking differentials, and crawl control.


The higher Land Cruiser grade adds upgraded comfort, larger displays, improved audio, and enhanced off-road tools such as multi-terrain select and multi-terrain monitor. An optional Premium package further elevates interior luxury with leather seating, advanced audio, and additional driver aids.

While more than capable off-road, the Land Cruiser is not trying to be the most extreme off-roader—it is designed to be a reliable, capable, and livable long-distance platform. For improved performance on uneven terrain, the available front stabilizer disconnect mechanism (SDM) allows increased suspension articulation at the touch of a button, helping the front tires maintain better contact with the ground. Multi-terrain select operates in both 4WD high and 4WD low, offering dedicated modes for mud, dirt, and sand.

Crawl control is standard and functions as a low-speed off-road cruise control with five selectable speeds, while downhill assist control helps manage vehicle speed on steep descents. Additional traction support is provided by vehicle stability control (VSC) and an automatic limited-slip differential (Auto LSD).

For more technical driving, the available multi-terrain monitor (MTM), included within the panoramic view monitor (PVM) system, uses multiple cameras to display the area around the vehicle on the touchscreen, assisting drivers in identifying obstacles that may not be visible from the cabin.

Visually, the 2027 Land Cruiser leans heavily on its heritage. The design incorporates upright proportions, squared-off bodywork, and retro-inspired lighting elements that echo earlier generations of the model. This direction aligns with Toyota’s strategy of reconnecting the Land Cruiser with its utilitarian roots while appealing to modern buyers seeking a distinctive, purpose-driven vehicle.


Inside, the cabin is configured in a five-seat layout, emphasizing practicality and usable space over maximum passenger capacity. Higher trim levels introduce features such as a larger 12.3-inch infotainment display, upgraded audio systems, and improved material quality. Toyota’s latest infotainment interface and driver-assistance suite, including Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, are standard across the range, bringing the model in line with current expectations for connectivity and safety.

Despite these modern touches, the Land Cruiser remains grounded in its intended purpose. Cargo capacity, seating configuration, and interior layout prioritize durability and functionality, making it suitable for extended travel and demanding conditions. The emphasis is less on luxury in isolation and more on usability in real-world environments, a philosophy that has long defined the nameplate.
Pricing for the 2027 Land Cruiser is expected to start at approximately $57,880 in the United States, positioning it competitively within the mid-size off-road SUV segment.
