2022 Dodge Ram 3500 Big Horn Crew Cab 4×4 w/ Total Composites Shell :: Featured Classified

Ram 3500 overland build

Today is an opportunity to invest in a vehicle that will facilitate long-term travel, full-time living, and everything in between. This super low-mileage (7,500 miles) 2022 Dodge Ram 3500 Big Horn Crew Cab 4×4 and Total Composites habitation box are the perfect blank canvas to build your dream rolling home. This setup is better understood as an expedition truck rather than an overland rig, as it has the payload and size to accommodate multiple occupants and generous amenities (learn more by listening to Principles of Overlanding :: Expedition Campers). At first glance, $115,000 OBO is no small sum of money, but it does represent a cost-effective alternative to buying a comparable finished expedition build that will set you back the best part of half a million dollars (see EarthRoamer, Global Expedition Vehicles, or EarthCruiser for reference).

Today’s rig also allows you to design your dream setup without the headache and cost of finding a suitable flatbed and camper. It’s worth noting that this is not just any shell but a premium Total Composites box, which is considered one of the best on the market (read Total Composites Expedition Truck Bodies for more info). After a decade of living on the road, I’m still making changes to the interior of my rig, so the opportunity to specify the shell conversion to your specific needs is a bonus (the current owners were planning the interior build-out with Overland Adventure Truck and can connect the buyer). Finally, the Ram 3500 that underpins this build is a great choice for overlanding and provides all the power, payload, towing capacity, and interior luxury you could ever want for travel and can be heavily modified for backcountry adventure thanks to excellent aftermarket support (as demonstrated by builds from CJC Offroad and Tactical Application Vehicles).

From the Seller:

I required a vehicle that would access most places with plenty of storage and could accommodate two large dogs and two humans. In addition, it needed to have the space and payload for everything we needed for long camping weekends or road trips. It incorporates a brand new custom Bowen drop height flatbed with an 18-inch garage and multiple compartments with lock and key. I wanted the Total Composites shell to have the best insulation so I could safely leave the dogs. The truck’s double cab also creates a large comfortable space for humans and canines.

I couldn’t find many vehicles built with two big dogs in mind without having them on the bed or in the main walkway. I had designed a shell layout to accommodate a dog platform the size of a twin bed for them and then a separate sleeping space for me. The dog platform could then double up as an extra sleeping space/dinette when required, with plenty of storage underneath. I loved working with Quade at OAT [Overland Adventure Truck]; he is so creative and made suggestions that I didn’t even think of. I did not build out the shell as I had a change in life circumstances and am now living in a large city and need to change my camping vehicle.”
