1997 Ford F-350 XLT w/ Flatbed Camper Conversion

We’ve featured several Ford F-250 and F-350 models over the past months, but this 1997 Ford F-350 XLT is a different kind of beast. While it might not have the creature comforts of newer models, this build features a classic body style and a reliable power plant in the 7.3-liter diesel engine. The flatbed camper conversion includes a heated floor, Planar diesel heater, and Isotemp water heater, which will keep you toasty warm on cold winter days and nights. The owner has also installed a TadiBrothers backup camera, modernizing the safety features of this 25-year-old truck.

From the Owner:

“We are tempted by a new project, and we are now evaluating selling our beloved Ulisse. The project started from our plan to start traveling the world and reach the most remote corners while being able to live off-grid for extended periods. Our final decision went to an ambulance based on a Ford 1997 model F-350 XLT PowerStroke with the legendary 7.3-liter V8 diesel and currently with only 44,000 original miles. The project is still in progress, and we are at probably 90% of what we would like to achieve.”

The 90s Ford is highly regarded for its large payload capacity and reliable Power Stroke diesel engine, while the solid front and rear axles are simple, robust, and easy to maintain. It’s probably loud and won’t necessarily drive as elegantly as a brand-new truck, but if you’re looking for ample living space and something a bit different, this build stands out from the crowd.

Distinguishing Features

Sky’s Off Road Design is the go-to for old body style Fords, so it makes sense that this truck boasts Sky’s front leaf springs, Super Duty rear leaf springs, and a rear shackle flip. Bilstein shock absorbers round out the suspension system.

Additional distinguishing features include:

  • Brand new Goodyear Duratrac 285/75R18 tires with Method wheels
  • Renogy 3000-watt inverter, six 600-watt solar panels, and 50 amp-hour DC to DC charger
  • Two 340 amp-hour Big Battery lithium batteries
  • Guzzle UV water purification system and 40-gallon freshwater tank
  • Isotherm fridge, 130-liter
  • Wrappon toilet system

This 1997 Ford F-350 Flatbed with a camper conversion is listed for $130,000 OBO (or a trading and cash difference) and is currently located in Prescott, Arizona. The vehicle will be in the Showcase & DIY Area at Overland Expo West on May 20, 2022.
