Alright, being VERY new to the world of 1st Gen Tacoma's, I've got a few questions regarding suspension, gearing and tire size for these rigs. Here we go, please forgive me if these are silly noob questions :snorkel: :
- If I plan to run 255/85R16 BFG Mud Terrain tires, will I be able to regear the front diff to 5.29 WITHOUT a locker up there? I seem to recall reading somewhere that those gears couldn't be run with an open diff up front. Or, am I making that up?
- What is the appropriate Old Man Emu (or other suspension) setup for running 265/75R16 tires? Would it be the same kit as for the 255/85R16's or something different? Keep in mind this rig will have an ARB Bull Bar up front, rock sliders, and an All-Pro rear bumper, plus my tools, gear, etc.
Haven't decided yet if I want to go with the Xtracab or the Double Cab, if that makes a difference regarding the suspension setup
.
I'm going back and forth between the 265 and 255 tire sizes because I'd like a tire/rig that functions well in ANY given situation: snow, rocks, extended off-road travel, extended highway travel. You name it. Maybe there isn't a "perfect" tire size for all occasions but I have it narrowed down to those two for my needs. Also, not sure the MT is the best tire for me, given what I want to get out of the vehicle.
