Hi All,

Im still fairly new on this forum but said I would share with ye my new vehicle I bought Monday gone which I will be using as a light off roader/camper on weekends away off roading and on road trips with my girlfriend ,

Its a 2.8 Auto LWB Pajero Exceed Japanese Import with super select 4wd and rear LSD that ive named penny after the girl in the big bang theory :wings: it has rays volk wheels with 31" BFG All Terrains on her , its a commercial so the space in the rear can happily hold me (6"2 and my girlfriend 5"4) in the back with lots of extra space there is also a huge sunroof which im most impressed with coming from a Disco 1 the spec list on the pajero is HUGE electric mirrors , air con , a working heater and a working radio are some of the things my lr didnt have, the planned mods arent huge , just sort out a sleeping arrangement for the rear , it has a 12volt power supply in the rear as standard so thats one thing off the list , a lift , mud terrains , a snorkel, armour and a set of lightforce 240s , any opinions welcome and anyone with a similar pajero who has the back kitted out for sleeping pictures appriciated interior pics to follow soon :coffee:

As a LR to Mitsubishi convert myself, I can tell you you will enjoy the Mitsubishi. When friends who are still in the LR fold ask me how I like my Montero, I tell them it is like a LR - that works. Oh yeah and no more $600 repairs for a broken seat motor or heater core. Your next trip to the parts store will be an eye opener.

welcome to the mitsu crowd.

Here check out my built thread for some ideas. I also bought a set of Blits 240s, awesome lights. Well worth the money.

Nice rig. I wish we got the TD's here in the states but I guess we'll have to make due with Petrol engines instead of Diesels.

As for sleeping accommodations, I have a full platform in back but can still use the 2nd row seats. No need for the 3rd row seats so I removed them completely and have stored them in the Garage.

here's a pic of the rear sleeping platform and how I use it for storage underneath...
Mitsu96SR_StoragePlatform.jpg
A) Hinged Sleeping platform (2 hinges allow it to fold towards the back so I can still use the 2nd row seats.
B) U Bolts in place to strap my ARB freezer fridge to.
C) 1/2" plywood covered with indoor/outdoor carpet.
D) 1"x2" wood spanning the rear lip for added support.
E) I cut a piece of 2x4" pine down to act as a spacer sitting between the platform and the mounting plate for the 3rd row seats. I bolted the platform down through the wood onto the mounting plate through this wood spacer.
F) 1/4" dia carriage bolt
G) Plastic covered Tubs I use for storage. I've since switched from these to thicker and tougher Rubbermaid units.
H) 1/4" dia turnbuckle
I) A section of 3-4" dia thick walled PVC pipe (used to support the corners of the rear section of the sleeping platform).
J) 1/4" dia 'J' bolt (F, J, & J securely bolt the rear section of the platform to the luggage tie down loops in the bed of the rig)

I also use a couple of pieces of 2" dia thick walled PVC pipe up front cut to length that I use to support the front fold out section since it sit's past the 2nd row seat.

Here's an animated gif of the platform opening up.

Welcome! Your truck looks great man. Curious.... what made you go from Disco to Pajero ? Right before buying my Gen II Montero i was looking for a Disco and although Im extremely satisfied with my Montero I still sometime think.... what if.....
The Disco's out of the box offroad capability and styling REALLY drew me in. It's reliability ultimately made me chose my Montero.

I couldn't have said it better. This exactly sums up my feelings and my final decision.

t's reliability ultimately made me chose my Montero.

Back story , this is my first non landrover 4x4 last 4 4wds have been lr

1st one 2200 Euros ($2,847.44 ) in warranty repairs in 8 months
FREELANDER-1.jpg

2nd one 900 Euros ($1,165.42) in repairs until the transfer box blew up
OffRoading120.jpg

3rd one 1200 euros ($1,555.74 ) in repairs until a guy bought it for his wife
OffRoading14.jpg

4th one just under 5000 euros ($ 6,483.97) in repairs an modifications (mostly repairs) in 3 years

so to sum it up it was never gonna be a landrover ever again after 4 years ive had enough, discoverys are excellent off road but the reliability is so bad it doesnt matter im now hoping the montero/ pajero is better behaved than the landrovers fingers crossed :Wow1:

I wasn't gonna say anything but since you posted that last post, I guess it's ok to. I asked my brother in law (a trained Mechanic that emigrated here from Scotland when he married my sister) about getting one. He told me point blank... if you do, don't expect me to help you fix it. They are extremely unreliable and I would simply be too busy helping to fix yours that I couldn't have a life if I did help you fix it.

I didn't think it could be that bad in this day and age especially with the love it gets on the LR forums here & also on the Overland Expo magazine & events, but I guess it is.:Wow1:

I have had the pleasure of doing the brakes on a range rover and it took me 5 hrs, I can change a set of brakes on anything else in 1 hr tops. I couldn't believe it took me that long...Plus I have heard the horrors of the British wiring and mechanical from friends who have owned the various "Fine" British motors, and while I have appreciated the Lazy boy interior of the Rovers I will not go near them...
