Great thanks to Scottish Treats for the stickers. They look terrific and were gracious to work with.

And Mitsubishi, if you're listening, a factory version of this should grace your showrooms.

Definitely looking good although the locations and photography are helping some LOL!! Glad you like the sticker. I'll tell him for ya since he's my brother-in-law. i found a similar designed logo and modified it then asked him to make up that sticker for me.

This area makes everything look good!

Thanks for passing along the kudos, and for the modified design. It's a legacy that needs to be promoted. Think of the serious credentials bestowed upon Land Rover from the Camel Trophy years, and yet, the influence of Dakar victories never made it to triple-diamond showrooms.

the influence of Dakar victories never made it to triple-diamond showrooms.

And this (the Dakar victories) is the primary reason we looked and bought our 2001 Montero. Marketing really did miss this opportunity.

Your Montero looks great!

Seriously if I hadn't worked at a Chrysler dealership I never would have understood how good the Mitsubishi Brand is. Totally under my radar till I was working at the Dealer. Then I learned all about the Mitsu brand through the guys there, who drove Talons/Eclipses, stealth/3000gts, and of course the never die Mitsu motor that powered the mini-van for all those years. They could have done more not only do they make awesome 4x4 but I have always wanted to get behind the wheel of a Galant GTZ... They make awesome cars but since they never seem to have eye catching, heart pounding commercials, no one knows about them because they don't have a Flying EVO add like Subaru does, or an awesome truck add hauling or anything, I mean all I ever see is a car and then come in and see your local dealer...

Blacked-out Hood and Dakar Graphic

Having driven my share of westward returns at golden hour I've wanted to black-out the hood getting rid of that double whammy reflection. The contour of the Gen III's hood lines flow nicely to the grill leaving the popped round fenders to flank the black, framing it up nicely.

But I wanted to break up the mass of the black with a graphic, deciding on the Dakar logo to tie in the badges I added. Here's how I did it:

1projectlogo.jpg
I Googled the graphic and projected it on a wall where I hung some newsprint.

2TraceLogo.jpg
I traced the logo,

3CutLogo.jpg
and cut it out of the newsprint creating the template.

4MaskLogo.jpg
I taped the template to the hood and masked all the exposed area,

5TrimLogoMask.jpg
and then trimmed the mask through the template.

HoodOff.jpg
I masked the rest of the hood and removed it, suspended and shot it with Dupli-Color flat black trim paint, three coats.

FinalCU.jpg
Peeled off the masking. And this is the result.

Final1.jpg
I also shot the rest of the grill to blend the lines form the hood. I had previously painted the grill insert.

Nice! Although, I asked a buddy about painting the hood flat black and he suggested having it wrapped instead because the flat paints won't last as long as the gloss paints do. I'll be interested to hear how well this holds up. I'm hoping the latest paint tech has improved beyond his knowledge.

Yeah, I'm aware of that, too.

Oxidation happens.
