I've been having so much fun with the Axial R/C cars we've had around the office that I decided to build my own. I chose to get the Dingo kit - it looks fantastic.

We've been having some serious fun; from videos:

They have been the single most distracting thing to ever enter our office.

Clearly something needed to be done, so I decided to build their SCX-10 Dingo kit at home. It's a fairly complicated kit, luckily, I grew up around these scale models, so I had a fairly good amount of experience building these things.

My first impression was holy ****, this is a lot of work - it's literally like building an actual vehicle.

Here's to starting this build, which is definitely a side project with how busy we are around here, hopefully everyone can motivate me to get more work done on it!

This is Axial's Differential Locker, it's insane how similar it is to a real car.

The ring gear goes onto the diff carrier.

I opted for Axial's upgraded axleshafts, the factory units are strong, but these are a CV type and won't get lost if I run like they did on my HPI vehicles.

The mini-CV.

The building process continues.

I opted again for the upgraded Axial part to replace the plastic carrier with an Aluminum piece of sexyness.

The front axle comes together.

Here's the start of the rear axle build.

Love these things. So cool! I remember when I worked in the hobby industry in the early 2000s and first saw these at RC Expo in Anaheim, I couldn't believe the articulation.

They're pretty insane, I may have a little too much fun with it. Now it just needs a mini Warn winch :)

I'm glad that I have no patience for such things, or I would become a serious addict.

Great thread - thanks for all the great pics.

Keep 'em coming!

Cheers,
Mark

Ready To Run Fun

Not to hijack the thread, but for those with zero-ounces for build-assembly-patience and just looking for ALL-DRIVING-FUN, then note the Axial SCX10 Honcho. This is the RTR [Ready To Run] Version:

PS: Matt, thanks for sharing your build! When are we going to do a R/C Overland Journal Adventure at the OJ/ExPo-compound?

To my wife, "ready to run" means, "you better get ready to run when I figure out how much you spent on that!"

Matt - I, for one, could use an update on your build...

Cheers,
Mark

I just wish they made the Dingo as an RTR. I wonder what all is involved in changing the body of the Honcho RTR to the Dingo body.

It seems pretty simple. You need to change the trailing arms (wheelbase) and then adjust the body mount posts.

I have the Wraith RTR that I have customized some, very cool rig.
Took it out today after I got home from work in 7" of snow here at home, it did pretty good.
