Went on a 4x4 trip recently to North Western Nevada. The objective was to prerun & check out a couple of waypoints from last years Nevada Trophy.

In attendance were three gen II Mitsubishi Montero's, one gen III Montero and one Mercedes G500.

I am in the Gold (aka Sudan Beige) Montero.

This is the first trip I've done in NV and I now plan on doing more trips there. Possibly in the the first few months of the new year... maybe even sooner.
FWIW, we stayed in a hotel in Fernley rather than brave the elements at night.:REOutCampFire03:

The white Montero & I were down to ~15psi while the others were closer to 20-25psi because their tires were smaller.

Cool vid, looks like fun! I wanna go next time :)

Sure. I'll be sure to invite you next time. The guy who coordinated this trip is mostly on 4x4 wire so he did it through their CA/NV forum and not the one here.

Awesome video. What PSI did you guys air down to?
The white Montero (33's) and I (35's) were down to ~15psi. The others were @ ~20-25psi.

Damn. Even with low PSI traction can be hard to come by. Any Monteros use the rear locker and if so, was it any help? It sounded like the Merc used all the lockers a few times and it helped tremendously.

Lockers only help when your tires have traction. ;)

IIRC, the SR's did just as well as the G Wagon on this trip and both vehicles got stuck in the same areas.

That said, I'm not discounting the G's capabilities, but rather keeping this run in proper perspective. Also the G500 driver had much more off road experience than most of the other drivers with the exception of Carlos in his white SR and me in my gold SR.

You can definitely tell who were the experienced guys. Overall, that looked like a freaking blast! When in doubt, take the age old phrase of 4x4ing. "Go as slow as possible, but as fast as necessary." There's a few times where a little more skinny pedal love would have helped out, and that Gen III was by far tackling those trails with ease. I'd love to see one built up.

Food for thought later: less chiefs, more indians. I'm pretty sure some of the greener drivers were getting confused by the six different people telling them eight different things to do. Let the spotter do the talking, that's what he's there for people!

Yeah, I wasn't running the trip. At one obstacle I mentioned that I'd like to hear from just the person who was spotting me. Was a bit forceful when i said it so I apologized later and explained my reasons explaning why i did it noting how you cant follow directions from everyone.
