Tundra AC VS DC!

So I was hoping that someone had the specs on 1st gen Tundras, 2nd gen Tundras AC and DC cabs. the dealer said my 01 AC had the same wheelbase as the 05 DC. He said the back doors just took away from my 6ft bed and left the DC with a 5.5ft bed. Im calling BS on that. When and how much wider are they, if any? Correct me if Im wrong but the 05-06 SR5 has 5speeds and if you got the towing package it had bilstein shocks and tranny cooler???

Here's the one pic I have comparing my 1st Gen DC and jim65wagon's 1st gen AC...

As you can see the DC has a deeper and wider bumper, the headlights and front fascia are larger, and the cab greenhouse is taller. The wheel base on the DC is longer than the AC. While the bed rails are the same dimension on top (bed accessories such as caps, covers and such are interchangeable between the two) the DC's bed is about 3" deeper. The frames are the same so that things like front hitch mounts and such are usable on both models.

Jim is going to be up here Sunday. We'll get some measurements for you. Any particular measurement you need?

I'm 6'2" and can lay flat/perpendicular in the bed of my '06 DC with some to spare. The bed depth is also deeper than an AC... I believe 2" deeper which is nice unless you're trying to grab something out of it from the side! I just got an xtra height topper and can sit upright on a sleeping platform while still having 10' deep drawers.

I have an 04 DC and besides the open diffs, the big limiter is the long wheelbase and the departure angle of the rear. Thers a lot of bed/bumper behind the rear wheel. There is also little aftermarket support for the Tundras, off road wise at least. I think the differences between DC and AC would be minimal.

All that being said, lock, lift and armor a Tundra and youll have a fine rig that will go just about anywhere. That is the plan for mine. It is currently stock 4WD and I have taken it most places a Taco can go.

I bought an '05 DC this spring after 13 years in a Jeep Cherokee. It is much larger than the Jeep, and has taken a little getting used to. However last weekend, I took it on Fins and Things, a trail in Moab Utah. I have added the Bilstien 5100s to the front giving me 1.75 inches of lift and one size larger tires. Other than that it is stock. It did great, but as stated earlier it has a long rear over hang. I dragged my hitch, but nothing major. That said, if I did not have to haul kids I'd get the smaller AC or even a first generation Taco DC.

I climbed onto this ledge in Sedona to test my new springs (otherwise not the line to take). I drove till the tires started to slip, took the pictures, then activated the rear locker and drove up the ledge without a chirp. ARB makes a front bumper and set of lockers for the Tundra.

The Tundra will drive the entire Broken Arrow trail. Not bad considering it's length.
