am i missing something here? the only selectable 29 spline lockers i can find are ARB. is there anything else out there. i don't want to have one and not swap the rear axle. i just discovered the commander 8.25" axle is a full floater.:victory:so there is really no reason to get rid of it. I don't think i'll break it anytime soon and haven't had any problems with it.

There is no locker available for the Jeep Commander. Same for the current Grand Cherokee.

Even though we have the 8.25" 29 spline axle there is something different about the axle housing that the locker will not fit. Only option is to swap axles.

I've called all the major manufacturers and confirmed it with their tech people. I even brought it into a 4x4 shop as well.

Check out what the XK guys are saying...

But if you know something I don't let me know because the XK and the WK have the same rear axle.

the way they made it full floater is a little weird, but it is a full floater indeed.

i think i'll pull the plug with my tax return next year and pick up an ARB. whats the worse that could happen? i'll just return it if it doesn't work.

they way they made it full floater is a little weird, but it is a full floater in deed.

Am I seeing the same weirdness in the picture you posted above? It uses a uni-bearing instead of a traditional front spindle and bearing style arrangement?

There's something to be said for uni-bearings from a maintenance point of view. Quick and elegant to repair. The cost is really the only downside for the rear.

I've already been to a shop and they took a look at the rear axle...kind of fuzzy on the reason but the ARB will not fit into the rear axle. In fact nothing will fit the rear axle of the WK or the XK.

There is a reason every company I called has said that their rear lockers are not compatible with our rigs. Not trying to be a downer just trying to save you some cash.

Has anyone tried PM'ing the user ARBTECH on this site? He is the service manager at ARB USA I believe. He'll know.

it really depends on which rear axle you have.

i have the QT2 rear axle. it uses a traditional 8.25" 10 bolt cover. it uses the same 8.25" gears as well.

my plan is to get a Rubicon front axle, steering box, and suspension components. I want to upgrade the rear to 4.10 gears and an ARB air locker. i will use the stock rubicon 4.10 gears in the front axles and try to fit my commander front brakes and wheel sensors to the rubicon axle. this way i'll be able to keep the ESP without much trouble.

The QT2 commanders and GC's use brake traction control as a limited slip. it works pretty good unless you get into deep mud or snow.

When will you actually test this out?

It just seems that the companies know their product the best. If it fit out rear axle we would have heard about it by now.

Crazy idea I had during the commute home...

ChryCo has "recycled" axle tube flange patterns throughout the years.

What if the axle tube for a rear JK axle and a commander was the same effective WMS and had the same pattern?

Bolt the FF assemblies onto the JK tube.

Get Moser (or someone) to make custom XK spindle assembly to D44 shafts (probably not a bad idea given we are talking about wheeling a 5k+ lb Jeep).

See where I'm going with this? Basically run a rear JK axle but have XK stuff from the tubes out.
