I just came back to San Francisco very late last night.
The first Overland Expo was AWESOME.

It was so nice to finally meet so many members and chat at length about travels. Even after 3 days I did not get to talk to everyone and I am sure I have missed many of you.

The classes were also very interesting and the trip presentations were fantastic. I particularly appreciated the ones from Jim and Sheri who spent 860 days traveling in Africa with their 80 series...yes, that's 2.5 years.

Check out: http://www.taleoftwotravelers.com/ Make sure to check the videos if you have the bandwidth.

Thanks again RoseAnn and everyone else for putting up together this great event.

Marc (XPCamper) and I drove back together and made a long detour through Death Valley to test both our vehicles. This was my first long trip with the Syncro since I did a complete mechanical restoration so I was a bit nervous. But beside one broken power steering belt and the rear shock aftermarket bushings that disintegrated, the Syncro did the 2000 miles without any significant problem. Average about 17 mpg and top speed 86.8 mph.

yes I believe so. We spent the night at the Eureka dunes then head over to Saline hot springs through the back road.

"What's the story on the Unicat Amerigo MXT"

This is my understanding.

Avi Meyers convinced Navistar to build him an MXT with up-rated axles, wheels and tires. The standard MXT didn't have the GVWR necessary to carry the Unicat camper. Avi shipped the chassis to Germany, and Unicat built the camper to fit.

Details about the truck can be found here
http://www.unicatamericas.com/vehicles_amerigo_mxt.html

A couple of months later, Navistar decided it would convert the MXT assembly line over to military vehicles only. That killed Avi's idea to build on the MXT platform.

So the MXT camper in the photos is one of a kind. It's for sale. Contact Avi Meyers, ameyers@unicatamericas.com, for information and a price quote.
