JK Wrangler Unlimited Rear Cargo Slide and Sliding Food Prep Surface

After ogling over several drawer and cargo slide systems I designed and built my own cargo slide for a 2010 JKU Sport.

The slides are 30" long, 400 lb capacity, and double locking. I sourced this hardware from Lee Valley, but I believe Accuride also sells this style of heavy duty double locking style slide.

The slides are mounted to 1/4" thick 2"x 2" aluminum angle through the floor using 1/4-20 3/4" stainless steel hex head bolts and 1" stainless fender washers (on the underside). A blob of black RTV sealant was placed on each of the fender washers to act as a weather seal with the fender washers acting to spread the 1/4" bolt point loading (i.e. to prevent the nut/bolt from pulling through the sheet metal of the floor.

The black cargo surface is 3/4" Baltic birch plywood cut to fit. The plywood was bedlined using Duplicolor Bed Armor, but any rough textured bedliner will work. This cargo surface was attached to the slides using a second set of aluminum angles and appropriate bolts and threaded wood anchors.

The sliding cutting board/food prep surface under the cargo slide also makes use of heavy duty cargo slides (24") but mounted in a horizontal configuration to achieve a low enough profile to fit under the cargo slide without catching on things. The white cutting board surface is 1/2" thick sanalite plastic cut to fit. Sanalite is a plastic similar to ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHWMPE) but is food grade and commonly used in the restaurant industry for cutting boards and counter tops.

NOTE: 400 lb slides were used for the cutting board as these slides are rated at <25% of their rated capacity when mounted horizontally as compared to vertically.

Very nice! Pretty much where I was going with mine. I have a 2011 and have to contend with the sub and a compressor I have permanently mounted.

Nice. Not having the sub made this job easier for me but the beauty of DIY is that you can make almost anything fit.

Please post some photos of your finished product as I'm always interested in the solutions that others have come up with.

Sorry. Was making a small edit and deleted the photos...not used to posting using the web interface.

Photos are back.

Indeed. I have a few posts there. I'm focusing most of my activity on this forum though. The breadth of people's experience (esp. with other vehicles) is a great source of inspiration.

Jeep screwed up with all the subwoofer options IMO……

MTX nailed it & this thing hammers!!!!!!!

Saw it at CES in LV in Jan & they have it now for both sides… built in 200 watt amp & 10" sub, works with factory too. It was in their Margaritaville JK

I think Im gonna do this so I can put in a slide system too

Amphibeast...is MTX's fitted subwoofer mainly an improvement in bass quality, a matter of relocating the sub to free up space, or a little of both? That's a great looking product but $450+ for a new sub seems like a lot, but I don't have one so I don't know how difficult it would be to relocate, or what the quality of the bass is from the stocker. If the factory sub is worth keeping and relocating you could fab a small shelf and relocate to the same location as the MTX product. I recently started a thread about an aux battery shelf that I constructed out of 1/4" aluminum angle, plate, and flat stock. That shelf could similarly be used to relocate your stock sub...if it's worth saving.

The other detail that Jeep totally missed on was making the rear wheel wells curved. Flat shelf-like wheel wells, like the YJ had and Landrover Defender series have, would make all of our lives much easier. The seem to have traded more interior volume for less convenient surfaces to mount add-ons.

Linkynoworky.

I searched their website, and only found their 6.5" replacement speakers for the JK...can you post up a working link/picture of this fitted enclosure?

EDIT: never mind; I found it. 4-door only. :(
