What are the Communications plans? How big a lift? The tires are fine.

Well Im not into BIG lifts anymore, preferably 2" over where it is now.

As far as communications. I know 0 on this. I dont plan on going anywhere too remote and I believe it will just be a CB radio.

As for the tires. I would like them just a tad bigger. Going with 235/85/16 I want to keep them land rover traditional skinny just a little taller. Not to mention Im surprised by these tires there pretty good and cheap Kumho Road Venture A/T, I like the pattern and they seem pretty good. Only issue is, down here ALL we have is mud. I HATE it Id rather just get an aggressive all terrain tire, but if I plan on going almost ANYWHERE the tires will be a must.

Come on just get some trxus M/Ts they are just down the street from you. And if I were you just save up and get the full 3in. lift with your truck.

Oh and your transmission may also need a kickdown cable adjustment because mine shifts fine.

How nice is the Cabelas in Gonzales? I have been meaning to make a trip over there but I don't get to far west on I-10 besides the airport in New Orleans.

Lest you get the impression everyone thinks this is a great build, allow me to disagree in a civil manner. By posting a build thread, you open yourself up to criticism and debate about your design choices.

In my opinion, this is probably one of the best examples of what not to do with a Discovery of any vintage. You have essentially ruined the aesthetics and possibly the functionality of a classic rig by going with the cheapest possible option at every turn, and you've only just started. You're not the first to go down this route, and you won't be the last.

Posting up where you store a firearm in a more or less public forum is also a very, very bad idea. It doesn't matter that it's invisible from outside the vehicle- you've just drawn a map on the internet.

Of course, my opinion really doesn't matter in the big picture. The opinion of those on other boards who are highlighting your vehicle as the "junkpile du jour" don't really matter. It's your vehicle, and you can do whatever you want with it. Just don't expect everyone to celebrate your choices as the second coming of Maurice Cary Ferdinand Wilks.

Then again, not everyone in the Land Rover forum world is as all flowers and hearts like me.

I didn't post this up to please you guys. Sad people have nothing better to do than rip on a vehicle.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me how I ruined the fuctionallity of it. Please Im begging you.

Lets see..
1 Remove plastic bumper crap [every body does it]
2 Paint Rims [Many people do it]
3 Remove headliner. Oh now I get it, I lost my breakover angle with that one..

NOT.

Cheapest?
1. Ill be replacing the bumper with a new one eventually.
2. Because painting rims is cheaper than getting them powder coated only to do it agian.
3. Cause we all know these are 80,000$ luxury vehicles right? I must have ruined the resale value by a whole.. 1,000?$ Please I bought and sold enough vehicles I know I can still get what I paid for it.

Come and get it. Seriously.
Just about everyone down here has one in their glove box. Just letting all you crooks know.

Right about one thing

The opinion of those on other boards who are highlighting your vehicle as the "junkpile du jour" don't really matter

Sure doesn't and they really look pathetic

It's your vehicle, and you can do whatever you want with it.

Thanks for letting me know.

Didn't realize I wes asking someone too celebrate with me.

Most of us are more mature here, but you're really testing our patience.

Then your motivation was simply altruistic? You thought you could teach some of us the proper way to outfit a D1?

A man can build his rig as he sees fit, no doubt about that.
However posting that build on a public forum invites a variety of comments.
On Expo we hold that any build discussion be civil and focus on quality of function and safety, just because it isn't pretty or how a person would have done it themselves doesn't mean it is ok to trash talk a build.

So time to go back to what you learned from Grandma & Grandpa as a kid...if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all. In other words, unless you see a gross safety mistake then commenting on the appearance of the build is wrong.

The only thing I can see what should raise concern is the gun mount pic, I agree that you are inviting someone to take your firearm. I have no idea of the likelihood of that happening but you have increased the chances by posting. And made Expo a source for info on where folks mount firearms in rigs, not a resource we want to be I am sure.

Keep posting, no restrictions on that, but realize not everyone may reply, and those that do might not be saying what you think they are.

enjoy,
Lance

We don't comment on the appearance/style/astethetics around here as I understand things. Function/safety yes but if a person wants to take a sawzall to their rig or drive something more trail carnage than an Iraqui taxi cab then that is fine. If they want to rattle can it cammo that is fine.
As a matter of course my understanding is that we don't brand bash or make negitive comments on anything outside of function/safety.

Just a fellow moderator trying to keep this thread from spiraling downhill.

Oh and for troll comment, remember trolling only works if others respond.
