i married into a ford focus. it was the worse car ever. my wife bought it new and brakes, tires, and suspension (recall item), were replaced before 30K miles. it stalled out anytime the AC was on.

the transmission wouldn't shift anymore at 52K miles, the paint was cracking, and the trunk would not open when we traded it in for a Mitsubishi diamante.

Ford Quality = replacing everything and trading up to Japanese.

Well, your experience is only with one vehicle also... I've had several 7+ Ford vehicles, all Ranger based, and the biggest repair I've ever had to do was brake calipers @ 20 dollars, so I do consider Ford trucks reliable... Ford cars one the other hand, aren't so great, as your experience shows... I really think that Aro is neato though, wish I could find one around here...

hey guys! i'm from romania and i personally own about 5 or 6 AROs. it's the oldest car in production in Romania ever. the above picture is an ARO IMS m461(last 2 letters indicate the production year,so it's not from 71 it's from 61) and original it had a 65hp diesel engine or a 3.2 petrol (v6 i think). After a bit of development they made it more boxy with alot of body styles(1965),even a limo style one with 7 doors :) about the engine...the most popular one was the 65 bhp diesel from the romanian tractors (UTB 650m), but recently it was equiped with the 2.5 td,85 bhp from peugeot. the petrol ones were a lot...starting from the 3.2 romanian engine to chrisler(i have 2) to ford and many other wich i can't really remember as petrol engines weren't so popular here because of they were very very thirsty. as far as reliability and capability....lets just say it kicks japanese ***! it's cheap,it's ridiculosly simple and it can really go anywhere with little mods to the tires and suspension. it is said that G-wagens and Defenders are based on it, and honestly i think it's true...as you can see the resemblence. i'll post a few pics and a video if i can to show you what it can do.
P.S...an american bought the factory and in a year he sold everything he could and bankrupted the brand....this was in 2006, last year(2009) a very rich romanian industrialist bought the brand for 500 $ bucks i think....yes...500! and promised he would revive ARO in a couple of years....

Hi
The Aro fabric is start with IMS 57 (in 1957) with assembly the GAZ69
In 1959, is change the engine wit 3.1 gasoline and start to change the transmission system
In 1961 is starting the model M461…
The engine is 2500cc gasoline, 83 hp
The transmission is fantastic, the solid axle front and rear, is with 5.12 rapport ring pinion (the standard)
The M461 is totally different from GAZ69; the external lock is the only link
The M461 is just with 3 doors
After that model, is start the Aro 240 (in 1979) , with now lock (like crosslander) and new engine, gasoline or diesel…( before, the engine is only gasoline) and independent front axel (like pajero ).
I have a M461 from 1962 and am a historical vehicle (with paper from Retro Club) and I’m very happy with that car

the second car is my M461
