Reliability v ease of repairs?

It's funny, me quite "old scool" until not so long ago, I totally hated electronic in cars.
My wife drives a '97 VW Golf diesel now for more than 410.000Km and a couple of months ago when I was servicing that car, I thought of accelerating that engine by means of moving the lever normally on the injection pump, and only then I discovered that there was no lever on the IP, but instead there was a electric plug! that means that all this time we had driven a car "drive by wire"!
I was so very much suprised with that discovery! I always had thought that her car was an old scool mechanical IP.

and considering that I only recently discovered that its electronically controlled, (which also means that I hardly have to service that car; ie hardly any breakdowns) now I have more confidence in car electronics.

That being said; my '77 Dodge still runs with an all manual carburator... and runs fine as wel.
