I have a decent Actron scanner that allows for recording but only a few minutes at a time. If you are chasing an intermittent gremlin, it doesn’t help much not to mention trying to manage the device while driving.
So I came up with a little hack for this problem. See the photo. This allows me to record as much data as I want for review.
I just cut matching size openings in a cardboard box (Amazon leftovers, of course), a little duct tape, and I have an advanced data logger in the copilot seat (using the phone to film the display on the scanner). This even allows me to talk during the drive so I can describe what I’m doing to the car to correlate to what’s displayed.
