Montero Towing?

The ones here are very similar to yours except we have a 2" receiver tube for a stinger instead of the ball hitch that you have. The 2" receive tube is typically made from 1/4" thick steel 2x2" square tube.

I'm a little late to this conversation, but I've towed a '98 Outback (about 3500lbs) on a heavy Uhaul car carrier a few times. This was with a '95 SR (3.5DOHC) w/32 inch tires.

It pulled it fine. Power was always good, even if it did need to drop a gear or two. The 3.5 has a high enough redline that it never needed to slow down to that "horribly annoying to everyone else on the road" speed and was generally still passing the big trucks on steeper grades. Fuel mileage went out the window though.

No signs of stress of tranny overheating. Coolant temp was never an issue either. They pull well....likely much better than a F150 or 1500 size truck and closer to a F250/2500.

I can't imagine it pulling that well. Well, I guess at the lower end of the weight scale it would pull similarly to a 1/2 ton, but since they are rates 2x high capacity the. The Montero saying it would tow better than one seems a stretch

I should have clarified. I meant how it feels and handles. Not the absolute weight capacity or being able to fly at highly illegal speeds while towing "luxury living for a week".

In the "up to 5000 pound" range it feels more stable and safe than a "1/2 ton" pickup. It might have more to do with SUV vs. pickup weight distribution than anything else though?
