Good stuff mate.

Goose is going from good to great. What a transformation!

Keep up the good work.

Ah shucks! Wait, who let you in here, don't we have moderators for this reason!

For everyone else here are a couple of update pics. We went out and put ol Goose through his paces. He's actually "lighter" up top now than when I had a roof rack and awning.

Did a few days around Death Valley taking him on his first offroad trip. On the way home all forward power was lost at speed. It was an interesting stop since I was mid pass on a semi and traffic was not far off. Engine is fine, whirring noise from the front of the trans leading me to believe it's the tq converter or flex plate. We'll see!

I hope you're able to figure out what it is quickly although a flexplate or torque converter change won't be fun in any case. Sure love the look of that F100 4x4 traveling with you though!

Thanks Todd, at least it will be cheaper than an entire trans, but we'll see what it is. Going to pull the inspection cover and drain the trans to look for metal tonight. Then go from there.

Poor Goose. That's an expensive tow home because of the distance.
It sucked, but I was really lucky to have my dad with me with his AAA card. That got us close and then I paid the rest of the way home.

Updates:
1. He's dead Jim...

I was really hoping for a shift solenoid or two. We pulled the pan off and bench tested them. 1 didn't work so as I was replacing it we started the truck to listen for the sound (Grinding/whirring) and sure enough with the pan off it was very clearly mid transmission. Sadly, this sounds like it would be the planetary gears.

2. No OEM parts, no OEM Re-manufactured available. A buddy who works for Toyota Corp even tried. So, we are looking at junk yard trans. We'll flush it out good and replace any rubber seals and see how it goes.

3. On the plus side, maybe that whirring was the trans all along and not the third member...

4. We have been keeping plenty busy building lightweight wood drawers for the back of Goose.

With time to kill until the transmission arrives we're replacing all of the fluids, brake lines, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, filling the knuckles, adjusting the compression on the shocks, adding some hold down clamps for the Campteq etc.
So much money in oil! haha.

Let's see. So many things.
Flat towed Goose with Tonto to the shop. Got the new trans in and the ujoints fixed.(or so I thought until I checked them)

All new brake lines (soft lines) new pads all around. Pulled the third member out and took it to Zuk for a once over. Replaced the pinion bearings and put in a new Marlin Crawler Pinion Seal. Threw it all back together and then noticed that the Ujoints were pressed in backwards so took it to the folks that did the ujoints just now to have them redone correctly.
Added some latches to the poptop to keep it from moving while offroading. The existing interior soft straps let it wiggle while offroading so I worry that will eventually cause the hinge to fail.

U joint in backwards.

Just dropped the truck back off to get the ujoints fixed. Hoping all goes well.

I am glad you posted a pic of the ujoint. I had no idea what you meant by "installed backwards" before the pic.
