Thanks! I do that out of years of habit and trial and error anyway. Definitely works until I get too much heat.

Can’t seem to make eggs work that way though. ☹️

can sand the pan smooth if you like but its not necessary. The finish isn't what keeps it from sticking, the seasoniing is.
Smooth makes it easier to clean.
Especially camp cooking its easy something gets burnt on.
When I had the big lathe, I went fanatical with couple Lodge pans. Those bottoms are FLAT and smooth.

FYI on used cast iron - I read this years ago as a warning, some fisherman use cast iron to melt lead to make tackle - you can never remove all the lead and it leeches into what you are cooking... just a warning.
